It all starts with small community projects

Little Roadside Libraries

The little roadside library project started as our Chief of Operations’ high school project. She wanted to make a real difference in her community instead of writing an essay. She knew her community was remote and had no commercial infrastructure. She formulated a plan and coordinated with a local artisan woodworker; he gave her a ride to a local lumber yard; she presented her idea to the yard manager who then donated 100% of the materials she needed for the project. She worked with the woodworker and with the materials, was able to make TWO little libraries instead of one. She then installed the libraries in her community, and with some donations from the local public library, she filled the libraries with books. The community has been trading books in the libraries ever since.
